Rifle

Prior to purchasing a .22 semi-automatic rifle I reviewed various blogs and posts including this one. I can remember lusting after a Nylon 66 when I was in high school but that was never to be.

Fast forward many decades and I have to make a decision. After reading the way the 795 can be configured as a survival rifle I decided to purchase it instead of a 10/22. I am not much of a Lemming when it comes to following the flow and all the Lemmings are pointing towards one direction.

While waiting for the ten day California wait period I purchased a set of Tech-sight iron sights and four extra magazines. On a Saturday I picked up the rifle, replaced the sights, scourded and cleaned the bore, oiled the moving parts that night and got ready for the next morning at the range. (I was concerned I would get a rifle made in Kentucky because Marlin had been bought out by Remington so the 795 was no longer being manufactured in the New England plant. I saw the Kentucky stamp and figure, well, so what? - Surprise, surprise!)

Sunday I drove to the range with rifle, spotting scope, lots of ammunition and many targets to sight the open sights at 25 yards. I used CCI Blazer 40 grain LR ammunition and the bench at the club to start the sighting in process.

After 30 rounds I felt I had the rifle sighted in and went to a semi-bench shooting position (I used my hand, resting on the bench instead of just resting the weapon on the bench).

My first shot was right in the center. Subsequent shots were within a dime's diameter of the first shot. There was shooter next to me who walked out on the range with me to change targets and said, "I think you have that nailed."

Do I regret buying the 795 over the 10/22? Nope.

Next project will be to find another 795 or Model 60 and attach it to a Dragunov stock with a scope and sight in that unit to 100 yards or even 200 yards. Then I will start practising all over again.

My long range shooting in the past was restricted to 105mm and 155mm weapons, not your everyday choice.

I feel this blog is very useful for anyone wanting to purchase a rimfire rifle and it helps the shooter decide what exactly they want the weapon to do.

I am wondering if you have the bullet feed ramp in there too tight (at the back), which is the question I am asking. It looks from looking at the 66 that the feed ramp is tight at the front and should pivot on the flat sring around the front but that the back should set on the cartridge stop and spring for same. So that when the cartridge stop moves up and down the back off the feed ramp moves up and down accordingly to pick up the next round. Or at least that is what it looks like to me. Check your cartridge feed ramp and make sure that ht eback off it moves up and down. Good Luck Ted

Re: Video

I am having the same issue the with my 66 the striker will not re cock

Re: Video

I ran outr of room. My question is does the feed ramp when installed just set in the area and then it is supported by the spring on the next piece or does the feed ramp fit in very tight and snap into place? When the gun is disassembled on the video it looks like it almost falls out when it is removed. I am not sure if it suppossed to be very tight or if it is just setting in there and it kind of pivots is what it loooks like. If Anyone knows please give me a shout. email tgangluff12671@roadrunner.com

Re: Video

This page is outstanding. My Grandfather bought me a Nylon 66 for my 10th birthday in 1964. After he loooked the rifle over he and I went back to the Outdoor Store, who had these rifles on sale for if I remember right $25.00. We then purchased another one but it was a lever action Nylon 76. I have had these rifles ever since and they have been everywhere. I really thought that they were indestructable. Then at the range one day someone who was shooting my Nylon 76 dropped it on the butt piece and then he tried to cock the rifle and kepp trying to rachet the lever until I saw what was going on and stopped him. by that point the stock was cracked very bad and when I took the receiver cover off some parts came out. This happened 5 years ago and I have been trying to get this rifle fixed ever since then with no success. I am not going to waste space with all the wrong info I have been given by people who ought to know better but when I was directed to this web sight I for the first time relized that I could fix the rifle. There is just one minor question I have, on the reassembly video, the first part that is reinstalled besides the stock scew is the bullet guide, feed ramp the part is boin the vid

Re: Video

I just finished cleaning my 66(I only disassemblied the barrel, bolt, sear and trigger guard) I assemblied with help from your video but after dry firing the striker will not recock.
